St Petersburg, Russia, by train
REPTA are corporate supporters of the National Railway Museum in York and we are pleased to advise you of a holiday to Russia this autumn.
Railway Museum group to St Petersburg, Russia
The Friends of the National Railway Museum are planning a 7-day tour to the recently opened Railway Museum in St Petersburg, Russia. Considered by many as one of the finest railway museums in the world it has a large budget and occupies the old terminus station of Varhavsky. The museum traces the history of Russian Railways with steam, electric, diesel and of course military equipment. See more at https://rzd-museum.ru/en.
Whilst the museum will be our main reason for visiting, we cannot ignore the treasures that St Petersburg has to offer and of course make the journey to Russia an essential part of the tour. We will travel out by rail and fly back. The journey is by Eurostar to Paris then on the very civilized Paris-Moscow sleeper direct to Moscow. This is a modern Russian train with accommodation in 2 berth sleepers on a journey through France, Germany, Poland, Belarus and Russia. Without doubt is this the best way to travel to Russia. See a video of the train on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6_kQ31SFTQ A full restaurant car service is available during the two-night journey.
We arrive in Moscow mid morning, transfer across Moscow to join the Saspan high speed train (Based on the German ICE) to St Petersburg arriving in time for dinner on day 3. See this train on https://www.russiantrains.com/en/train/sapsan-high-speed-train
We will stay in St Petersburg in a centrally located 4* hotel for four nights.
Highlight will be the Railway Museum and as senior management from the National Railway Museum in York are working with their counterparts in Russia, we are sure we will be treated as VIPs and get behind the scenes. We are also hoping to visit a working steam depot at Moskovski and the children’s railway at Puskin.
A full day guided tour will allow us to see some of the many sights and treasures of St Petersburg. The Hermitage and Winter Palace would no doubt come top of the list but the list is almost endless so you can be assured of being shown the best that St Petersburg has to offer.
A free day in St Petersburg will give you time to wander at leisure and during one evening we will offer the option of a visit to the famous Ballet. We will fly back to London by British Airways, arriving early evening.
